Our take on the J1s
The J1s is an IDEX printer: two independent extruders that move separately. That lets it combine two materials or colours in one part and, according to Snapmaker, print two copies at once (duplication mode), a part and its mirrored version (mirror mode), or keep one extruder on standby in case the other runs out of filament (backup mode).
For a small workshop, duplication mode is what sets it apart: it doubles the output of identical parts without a second printer. In the catalogue, two materials can also be had from toolchangers like the Snapmaker U1 or the Prusa XL, but neither prints two parts at once the same way.
Its limits: the volume is 300 × 200 × 200 mm (and less when printing two copies at once), its claimed speed is moderate next to 2025-2026 machines, and it's a 2022 model that slices with Luban, Snapmaker's software. It weighs close to 28 kg.

What materials can the J1s print?
This comes from four facts on its spec sheet: the nozzle reaches 300 °C, the bed 100 °C, and the machine is enclosed with a direct-drive extruder. Those four facts decide most of the list: nozzle temperature sets the ceiling on what you can melt, the bed decides whether the first layer sticks, the enclosure keeps large parts from warping, and the extruder type rules flexibles. We don't test the machine — this is guidance derived from verified data, not a guarantee.
In short: it prints PLA, PETG, TPU (flexible), ABS, ASA, Nylon (PA), Policarbonato (PC) without a fight.
| Material | Prints it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| PLA | Yes | Yes. PLA has no special needs: any FDM printer like the J1s prints it out of the box. |
| PETG | Yes | Yes. With a nozzle up to 300 °C and a bed up to 100 °C it comfortably meets PETG's needs. |
| TPU (flexible) | Yes | Yes. It has a direct-drive extruder, ideal for flexibles; prints TPU well (go slow). |
| ABS | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 300 °C and an enclosure: it contains ABS's warping and fumes. |
| ASA | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 300 °C and an enclosure: it contains ASA's warping and fumes. |
| Nylon (PA) | Yes | Yes. It reaches 300 °C and is enclosed: it prints Nylon (dry it well first). For carbon-fibre variants, use a hardened-steel nozzle. |
| Policarbonato (PC) | Yes | Yes. Nozzle up to 300 °C and an enclosure: suitable for PC. For carbon-fibre variants, use a hardened-steel nozzle. |
